burnt cane
Dblevins' post on burnt cane got me itching to go. Well the itching was due to the healing process where my skin was repairing itself from my motorcycle mishap a month ago. But back on topic.
Loaded up and hit BC early sunday morning. Water initially looked good but since nobody else was there I expected it to be slow. I was right. Started out down the second lake a way. If you fish it you know what I refer to as the second lake.others- there is a spot where water gets shallow and the lake changes. Almost two different situations. Water seemed murkier than near ramp. It generally is. Hit a couple of my better spots with no luck other than a couple of small fry.still a little high. The water-not me. Made it hard to get on a couple of my spots. Went back to first lake and the cleaner water. Still slow. I dropped in some good looking spots from the bank out to the deep stuff off shore. More small fry.
Several bass fishermen and they were slow. One guy putting in as we took outsaid he fishes it often and does ok.
4 years ago it was nothing to catch and release 200-250 a day. Mixed in would be a nice mess of 10-14 inch crappies. No longer. Either they don't hang out around deep structure or the water has changed. It is higher and muddier than before. But still clearer than east moon when i was catching them earlier.
We loaded up and hit old town where a limit of channel cats are easy pickin-s. Set a few yo-yos arond a cluster of cypress trees and the cats will come for the shade. When they do it will keep you busy.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
