Lake Maumelle

I have heard it is called the dead sea. I would apreciate real advice from someone that fishes it often. I fish bass and crappie. Thinking about fishing here instead of Conway.

Lake Maumelle is not the dead sea but is normally hard for newcomers to fish, thus the nickname. I think a major problem is that there isn't as much deep cover as needed since the LR Water Department won't allow the public to drop organic fish attractors. There are PVC fish attractors, but to me at least they aren't as effective as wood. There are areas where trees were left when the lake was flooded that hold fish summer and winter. A lot of regulars catch a lot of crappie, bass, bream and catfish. I not an expert on the lake but enjoy fishing Maumelle and usually bring a few fish home. I would have a hard time fishing there without a fish finder with GPS, but have seen several experts catch lots of fish there without GPS. This spring Lake Maumelle produced many limits of crappie.

I can be on that lake in 15 minuets from my door. You would think I know it like the back of my hand. I have had trouble converting the coordinates to my GPS. I usually do my best trolling Bandit 300s in the Summer time. I find the lake very difficult in the wind.
I sure do wished I could sneek some boo in there.

i fish there a lot later in the summer and pull cranks like DP is talking about, but before they push to the edges of channels we usually catch them around brush tops(spend and afternoon riding and finding them on your graph) in 8-15 fow depending on weather. i use an ultralite and 1/16 jig head with a Kalins jig in tenn. shad. I like to fish for them like this beacuse it is a change of pace from my old jiggin pole east arkansas methods. If you are looking to catch some green carp you should come out on tuesday nights from 6pm-10pm there is a bass tourney every week that is a lot of fun and the guys there are very helpful (You get to throw em back and save freezer space for your sac-a-lait) hope this helps

Hawgrule, I use the same methods as you but in the hot summer also fish up to 30-40 ft deep. The wind can be a problem since many times I find fish stacked in a small area and have to use an anchor when the trolling motor won't keep me on top of them.

yep, ive seen that wind rolling that water and it can get just plain scary out there...
