Buffola gnats are here and I hate them your solution?

Use "real" vanilla instead of immatation, and cut it about 5 to 1 with water. It works much better than the fake stuff. I put mine is a small, misting spray bottle, and keep it in the boat. I normally just put a spray or two on my face and ears and that keeps them %$#* lil' biting *#&##^'s away! If you don't cut the vanilla, it is just too sticky to be practical. Other than using this mix, I don't wear any other bug repellent or sun screen at all. I don't want any of their scents coming in contact with my baits or gear period! Also, when it's hot and sweaty out, or when the fish are just not biting well, I spray The Original Fish Formula on all of my presentations about every 5 minutes. This attractant really works great, and also hides human scents too!

the imatation vanilla flavoring will work just fine and you don't have to go to all the trouble of cutting and mixing.

probably 50 years ago i was on the st. francis river fishing and the dog gnats were eating me up. i'd sprayed with off but it wasn 't doing anything. an old river rat came up the river in his home made paddle boat and i told hima bout the gnats eating me up. he said, "get you some vanilla flavoring and wipe that on your face and ears." i thought he was crazy till i tried it. since then i've kept a bottle in every boat and in my truck during the spring.

For other than contradiction, why use fake, which doesn't work as well, when you can use the real stuff? Straight "Imitation" vanilla is stickier, more apt to stain your clothes, and there isn't any sense in getting the stuff on your hands to apply it if you do not need to. That would be more trouble, less effective, and messier than what I do for me. Just my practical two cents.
