New Arkansan trying to learn.
Just getting started trying to catch crappie, millwood is where I fish. I've been told to keep away from the minnows and get a 10ft crappie pole 8lb line and jigs. From the number of people that have told me that I guess that's the way to do it. That sounds like the easy part. Figuring out what I'm looking for in an area to fish that's what's got me scratching my head. Any tips would be appriciated. Excited to join in the hunt.

Might try working the cypress trees and their knees with jigs. Also try the oxbows up Little River in 1-2 FOW.

slabmaster II: in a place like Horseshoe do I look along the edge of the channel where it gets shallow or get across the hump and toward the middle of the horseshoe? There is a small channel that runs through that area also. From what I'm reading it appears that crappie prefer to stay in deeper water and only come up shallow to spawn.
thanks

Not always true. I have found crappie in good numbers shallow in the heat of the summer. They follow the baitfish. I have never fished there before but i usually start shallow and work deep while probing to find them.

I'm assuming that points and structure that would hold bass is also the same type of location that hold crappie?

Yes,and on horseshoe most people fish the piers, pads, cypress trees. Some will spider rig the channels. Others will try to locate brush piles.

So does this flood cut the bite off until the water levels back out?
