    Default Old Town Today 3-17-2012

Well regardless of the bad weather and a bass tournament being held on the lake I decided to head down and give old town a try. I got off work at 8 this morning and made the hour drive down to the lake. Crappie fishing was slow and both Ramps were jam packed with trucks as far as you could see. I managed 13 all day with 3 other throwbacks, 7 bream, 8 small catfish and a striped bass. 5 crappie were on minnows the rest were on lime green and chartreuse slab slayers. The catfish and bream were caught on crickets. Was fishing between a foot and a foot and a half deep in about 5 feet of water. had 5 crappie that were over 2 pounds the rest were between a pound and a pound and a half. All the males were dark today. Been catching just a few that we're dark before today. I believe the females have moved back and are staging a little deeper until the weather gets stable. They had the spillway open pumping the lake down so once everything gets stabilized, especially the weather I think it will pick back up.

It was fun. Weather just wasn't real cooperative. And it was busy overcast sprinkling off and on and boats everywhere. It still was a good time. I've been wearing them out down there without much company but I guess the word is out that they starting to turn on lol.

We were down there Friday, and it was just about the same. Fished from daylight till dark and BARELY caught a mess. Couple really nice fish, but it was way way slow. And whats up with $30 camping down there?

Yeah I know what you mean. $30.00 to camp is ridiculous. I agree with what you said on yellow jackets post, I think it's going to get right down there this coming week. I'll be back down there Friday and Saturday to try them. I've limited out down there in a couple of hours this year and then there's been days where I've had to work all day at it just to scrape up enough to make the grease stink.

The lady says they had to go up on their price because of all the improvements they've made on the campground. There wasn't even a freaking door on the pooper! Think maybe its cause they've got the only campsites on the lake?

Yeah I'm thinking it because the lack of competition. Improvements lol I haven't seen any improvements down there other than the rebuilding of peoples fish houses that got destroyed when it flooded. And some of those would be hard pressed to pass as a improvement.
