What's the outcome of the Crappie Club?
For those of us who did not get to the crappie camp, what became of the idea of a crappie club?
-
Jake I called and spoke with Paul Johnson and David Waters about a crappie club. They are both crappie.com members and head up there respective crappie clubs. They both gave me useful info about starting one up, pitfalls, ect. Bottom line is I am not the man that has the time or resources to get the ball rolling. We never got to really meet at crappie camp as the weather drove away the masses, so we are still up in the air on the idea.
CEB and I spoke about it and feel the best bet is to start a small crappie club in Central Arkansas and expand out from there. Our thought was to have a fishing Rodeo somewere arround Little Rock like they do on the South Carolina board. It doesent have to be a nightstalk just something we can scedule about a month out. We just need to have a meeting to judge who may be interested in it first then decide what we want to accomplish by forming the club.
Some of these clubs are highly competitive and tempers flare at times. There are others that are smaller in scale and they have bushpile building days one month on a body of water then have a tourney then next on the same body of water. Then everyone has access to the gps coordinates of the brushpiles thus has a chance in a tourney on non familar waters. Some have kids days and take various children fishing who dont get a chance to go. Bottom line again we just need to have a meeting and get some folks ideas about what they want out of a crappie club.
What are your thoughts on the subject?

I am interested in the Crappie Club as well, but I am in Southwest Arkansas near Lake Greeson. I would be interested in getting something started in the Hot Springs area. The brushpile building days sound like a great idea, I am pretty new to Crappie fishing in this area and would like to be able to fish on several of the area lakes, but it is hard to fish a new lake if you don't know the location of any structure. I would be glad to help any way I can.

Just let me know what's going on and I am game for anything. The next two weeks are going to be hectic, end of school, but I am more than happy to do anything needed. I think the benefits of having a club, even on a small level, are worth putting together. Similar to the effects of this message board, the club would offer countless opportunities for networking and fellowship.

Outside of working on the water which keeps me busy, a club for networking is a great idea. Takes alot of time and efforts on everyone's part to make it successful though.
Brush building days is good. And, yes it can be difficult to fish new waters. I did the crappie tournament thing for 2 years and you end up spending more time looking for cover than you do fishing productively.
So, that can be easily resolved by having circuit tournaments. Not only do you have a circuit of lakes each being hosted by a different member (shared labor). But also, on each lake the host would subdivide their lake into 4-5 sections and provide a basic map with some gps coordinates for assistance in each section. You divide the field of participants, draw for who starts in what section and each group fishes each section a specified period of time. Then rotate. The concept is that everyone fished all the same areas for the same amount of time. You know which lake you're giong to fish. You know where on that lake you're going to fish and when. All that is left is each angler's ability to make a fish bite and get'em in the boat. You could even limit the number of fish to be kept in each sections, say best of three. The stories and experience that can be shared can be valuable since everyone in that tourney fished the same spot. Anyway, just a thought.

There are some good ideas going here. Let's just not let it end there. I should be able to contribute a substantial amount of time in a couple of weeks. We should probably schedule a time to get together to get an idea of how many people will be involved.

I'm in the same boat, give me three weeks and I have all the time in the world to do anything needed, but until then we might wan to get a feel as to how many would be interested by something simple like a one day get together drop brush and fish. Or get together one evening and scout maps of any lake and decide what would be good for that lake, then know who's reallyinterested by the date set for it.

I don't have a whole lot of extra time, but would be willing to help anyway I can. Let me know what i can do
