Default Need help deciding on new fish graph.

I have it narrowed down to these two Lowrance units. The first is gray scale and has both a gps/chartplotter and a fishfinder. The second is a fishfinder only but has downscan imaging. They are both $199. What do you think. This will be for my trolling motor.

Can't help you with the Lowrance but if you wanna see a Humminbird I got a couple you can look at. Might even catch a fish while you want the screen.

Not for sale just so you could see the Humminbirds in action. I will have a 797 SI for sale before long.

I see. I'll take you up on that. I can only fish on Saturdays and Sundays right now. What I can't decide on is wether or not the GPS is crucial to my success. Right now I only have a graph on the console and it doesn't have GPS. I really like the downscan imaging but they are very expensive with a GPS/charplotter combo.

The way I fish, trolling, the GPS is a must. When I am trolling and cross submerged timber with fish on it I mark it and trol back over it later.

Do yours have the downscan feature or is it even an advantage over regular sonar?

The down scan aka down imaging is awesome. I have a Humminbird color DI model with GPS and love it. The GPS might not be real important to you if you fish smaller waters and already know where the hot spots are and can easily get back on them again and again. I fish bigger lakes and fish a lot of brush that is in open water and the GPS really makes it nice. I can run right up on my waypoint, throw out a marker and go to fishing. The DI really helps me determine if there are any fish or bait fish near the cover though and I've truly learned that it don't lie. I'm so confident in it anymore that if I run over a brush pile and don't see anything that looks like fish I just drive away and go to the next spot. With traditional sonar I was always left guessing and had to spend some time fishing a spot for I decided that it was or wasn't holding fish.
