Condfidence is a big one, I fish one jig all the time . I have confidence in my ability and my jig so why fish anything else? lol lol I see some folks spending more time changing bait than fishing. I picked this up from Bass fishing, if there is a bait you have no confidence in fish it till you learn how to fish it. I think presentation is more important than color or size of bait.
Forgot to mention a long dipnet and bouy markers for marking fish schools or structure.
Good info. Thanks, Russ.
[QUOTE=bigtex;1821403]Thanks CP for the info. I for one who has so much to learn appreciate it very much. I have not come across those experienced crappie fishermen in NW AR to learn from yet. Guess I need to make some trips to central AR to learn from the masters. It is this type of info and thoughts from others that make this site so useful to me

That is good Crappie fishing 101 Russ! Thanks for taking the time to put that into writing and share. Don't forget to mention "being quiet" while fishing! I was noticing a couple of young guys two hundred yards from where I was fishing Sunday on a Miss oxbow lake and they were dropping things in the bottom of their metal boat while trolling that I could hear where I was. Crappie are easily spooked most of the time. If I am going to a certain honey hole I will cut the big motor well in advance and use the trolling motor to slip in closer....then drift the rest of the way in if possible. If the water is clear they will see you move in the boat so be still too! And PAY 'TENTIN to yo rods!!!!
Some times if I'm on a new lake I like to troll/spider rig then once I find there color I go in stalk mode!
My dad started keeping a fishing and hunting log years ago,Lake level, water temp, color of water,What area of the lake we are fishing,Time of year(spring, summer, fall, winter) just to name a few. This gives us a place to start each trip.If the lake is rising in the spring fish the creeks and coves if falling fish the main river channel just to name a few. This has really helped us on the tough days.Instead of running all over the lake you know the area or brush pile you have been catching fish in so you keep adjusting to the fish sooner or later they will bite!!!
Thanks Guy's some great comments, Yes being quiet, Fishing Logs (Crappie are creatures of habit catch them at a spot at one time of the year chances are good they will be at the same spot the next year, and the year after) confidence, presentation, long handle dip net, bouy markers, to name a few...Keep um coming I know were helping out someone wanting to learn.
