Default The Elusive Lake Ouachita Crappie

Well, it wasn't awesome fishing by no means but I did manage a few on Ouachita today. I was fishing water that was 44' deep and they were suspended about 6' off the bottom. Caught them on Meatgetter jigs weighted on bottom with a 1/2oz casting sinker (drop shot style). I've never caught them this deep before but I'm going to start looking down there more often. What's the deepest you guys have caught crappie? I got a couple of little ones in there but I didn't want to throw none of them back as I figured they would die anyway. You can tell their swim bladders are messed up from being pulled up from such deep water.

I've caught 'em as deep as 60 feet in Lake Monticello. There is one hole showing 63 ft deep on the chart and I fish it one crank off the bottom (about 18 inches)! Better have plenty of line for that kind of fishing, LOL.

Well, that's probably going to be a winner for deepest. I'm for sure going to start looking for them in the depths until the water starts to warm up. Water temp was 48 when I put the boat in the water this morning.

Yeah, me to back when there was moss. It's almost nonexistent now. I've been fishing nothing but brush piles.
