Another good road trip to Lake Degray. Fish were spread out holding tight to the bottom and structure 20-30ft. We were fishing verticle with jigs. Got down there early and could not see anything due to the dense fog. We also ran into drizzle, cold and winds out of the east / northeast. I was starting to doubt my decision to make another road trip, but the crappie were there feeding early (sunrise). That afternoon turned out to be blue bird skies with very little wind and the crappie shut down but came back late in the day. It was a little work but we managed two limits in the coooler. Few at 2lbs but all were nice size / good day..

Nice catch sir. Wish I was there lol.
NO YOU DON"T, they aren't as easy to find as they say!!! I may go again tomorrow but it darn sure won't be on that lake. My buddy who lives beside us said they are just throwing you off, they aren't going to tell ya where the fish are....i'm about to believe that, proofs in the pudding. I could nearly count the crappie on 1 hand I've caught on Degray in the past 3 or 4 trips but I go back to a lake I know has crappie in good numbers and catch over 100????? I'll probably go to Hamelton tomorrow, even though it's way low. I've yet to try Greeson either though and I've heard from trusted sources Greeson has good crappie numbers. All i'm saying it don't think you've got em in the bag by what people post on here. I'm not doubting they caught em, not calling anybody a lyer but they ain't swimming over themselves down there either!
I have to comment on this one. I did fish for twelve hours from sun up to dark. I did mention in my post that it was tough fishing, but in no way would I have anything to benefit from misleading anyone on crappie.com, and for sure is not my intentions. If anything I post the facts hoping someone will benefit and help others catch some nice crappie on degray or other similar deep clear lakes in arkansas.
One fact, I did catch forty slabs at degray Friday 1/20/12. I may go back next week and not catch any. Thats crappie fishing
I don't know either gentleman, but I'd bet the last dime I have that McCrappie is telling it like it is. I have been on both ends of the stick, Having caught when others didn't, and having NOT catght when others did...Confidence in your home body of water can produce when others can't get a hit...just saying...And I'm going down there soon, I wanna try some of that myself!!!
Well it's a free country but don't be let down if you only manage 5 or 6 or even less. As for me I'm moving on to other waters. I got a buddy that I spoke to this evening about hitting Greeson on Wednesday. It's supposed to rain all day Wednesday though so not sure we get to go. Luckily I've got a freezer full of fish, so plenty of time to find them over here, so far not impressed but i've only fished on Degray, there's other lakes in the area, Ouachita, Hamelton, Cath., ect. That same guy who wants to meet me Wednesday over on Greeson is planning on traveling to OK to hit that lake over there where me and my dad caught over 100 only a week ago. I must say i'm jealous cause I know he'll rip em over there. I will tell you this Xring if you put in at Arlie Moore put in on the upper ramp, the one furthest up in the cove, then I think it's the rock wall 2 small pockets up, same side of bay you put in on, East side and try there. Both times I've fished a lot of the same water in there and seen a boat camped out there. I've covered that water all up in Arlie and not found much of nothing but that place, if nobody's there, might catch for ya. I won't move in on somebody and they've controlled the hole both times I've been there.
