Was it just pressed on or was it spot welded?

Most of the ring gears are pressed on, just like a car. Spot welds are hard to balance. You probably have a crack in the ring gear. Either way it's a trip to the shop. Removing the flywheel is not a backyard deal.

Look at it real close. If it doesn't have a crack in the gear you MAY be able to press it back on again. On farm equipment we use RED Locktite. Let it set for 24 hours and are good to go. But be forewarned; once red locktite is dry it takes heat to get it loose! As in Oxy-acetylene heat.

I believe that the flywheel house some electronic components. So be careful how you handle it. No banging on it or prying on it trying to get it off. I'd recommend that you take it to a marine repair shop to insure that it is done right.
