Some lakes have great numbers but they run on the small side while others a guy can struggle all day long, Dequeen, Degray, Gillham, are all in that category I've noticed but the one's you will catch are the true slabs. Now, is there any truth to the fact that too many crappie with stunt and never grow to any size? Is it that these lakes mentioned here are just lower on numbers therefore the size is bigger. I've heard the slot theory is good for bass but crappie not so much because of the stunting effect? Lakes like Pine Creek, OK, Blue Mtn, AR, and from the sound of things Nimrod seems if you can just drop a hook in the water you can catch crappie, while others seems you gotta study the lake for years before you manage to be able to find crappie. I'm just wishing I lived closer to one of the above lakes mentioned.....may be worth 1 big trip to these water over struggling on nearby lakes wasting time and gas, not to mention getting frustrated. So do crappie stunt or not?
Crappie do stunt if over populated. Nimrod has a high population and I've been told fast growth. I think fishing pressure on shallower lakes keeps size down some. I catch thousands of Crappie on Nimrod every year. Lots of small fish but the good fish are there if you can locate them.
Recognize this from the Crappie calendar? We catch good limits sometimes. The limits are usually easy on Nimrod but quality is harder to find than quanity.
