    Question Weekend Crappie

    Hey guys,

I finallt talked my wife into going fishing with me. We've been a few times together, but allways end up fishing for bream. So she can catch something. I sure would like to find some crappie with her. I'm looking for a "hot" spot for this weekend. I live in Central area, but am willing to travel a little. I would appreciate any help on a location and even some pointers. I thought about Peckerwood, anyone been there lately? Thanks in advance!!!:o

CrappieJ -- I've got the same issue. My wife loves to fish and I love the fact that she does. But crappie takes patience and we, too, end up fishing for bream much of time. Still looking for the crappie pile-up for her. We went last weekend to the Little Maumelle River (put in at the I-430 bridge). She did catch a huge 2lb crappie..so she's hooked...we just didn't catch anymore. We're going to the Little Maumelle Saturday...taking a supply of crickets along in case the crappie aren't biting. And that's OK...but really getting into them would be nice.

Guys I think Peckerwood rocks just about all the time from when it opens till it gets to low to fish. I would give it a try. Little Maumelle is nice since its so close and you can catch a nice mess of fish as well. You might also want to check out Lake Maumelle. Hear they are really catching the crappie on the west end of the lake lately.

What kind of boat are you guys running? May be out there this weekend at some point with CEB.

Gooch - I run a 16 foot Alumacraft flat bottom. I grew up fishing on Lake Maumell, but I tell you. I'm not crazy about a flat bottom on the lake. Maumelle can get extremely rough in a matter of minutes. It's a good lake but early mornings and stay close to shore is about the only way I would try it in a flat bottom.

Thanks for the info-- I run a 14' Alumacraft flatbottom, so i would be a little leary of Maumelle as well. I was at Peckerwood two weekends ago. we only caught six. The Little Maumelle sounds like a good option. I have fished it a couple of times with some luck but nothing to brag about. I have never put in at the 430 bridge, only at a ramp at someones house off of hwy 10. Any suggestions on location or depth coming from 430 bridge?

I have only fished the lower part of the Little Maumelle. There is some good fishing in the brushpiles about 1/2 mi downstream of the marina. Look for laydowns in 3' water near shore and on out to 8-9' deep. Search these to get an idea of where they are in the water column. You can also check out some of my past posts on the Little Maumelle. Be leary on weekends, it is VERY crowded, and in my opinion not worth it unless you go at the crack of dawn or the last bit of dusk. The boat traffic calms down at these times.
