Default Stainless steel mounts on aluminum boat

My fish finder installation instructions say to use marine starboard when mounting stainless steel transducer mounts to an aluminum boat. Is this necessary? And does anyone know where to get marine starboard in or around Little Rock?

you dont "have" to use the starboard, but if you do mount the starboard to the tin boat, then you can move the mounting bracket numerous times until you find the sweet spot for the ducer location w/o putting unnecessary holes in the hull. If you don't use the starboard, then you have to drill holes in the hull every time you move the ducer which can cause problems down the road (leaks). I have a tracker and the dealer installed the ducer mounting bracket straight to the hull, no starboard.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Run out to Walmart, buy a cutting board and trim it to size. Will be cheaper also. I've drilled and tapped it with good results.

Screw it to the boat. Even if ya change brands later, it's easy to put screws with silicone in the old holes, and they wont leak. Most of the ducers have mounted the same for quite awhile anyway, so the most you should ever have is 2-3 sets of holes for the different brands. There are exceptions, but not many.

My Lowrance HDS-10 is mounted to the boat, and it works perfect!!! I also have the Structure Scan ducer mounted directly to the boat, and it works great as well.

I would just screw it to the boat too. If you ever need to fill the screw holes just use some gray Marine Tex. That stuff is fantastic and I assure you any holes you plug with it will never leak a drop!
