    Default Lake Conway Sunday Evening

I just came off of Conway, it was probably my worst day ever there. I should have got my lazy ass out of bed this morning before the wind started. I went through 2 trolling motor batteries and just couldnt seems to get out of the wind. I saw a lot of snakes and all the fish I caught I threw back b/c they were small. I tried everything, 3 poles in the water at once with 3 different baits. I got a new pole yesterday and the tip broke while i was stringing it, that should have been my sign to stay home a drink beer, but I exchanged it and went out anyway. It didnt look like many people were catching fish. There were a lot of boats and they were constantly on the move, so I guess no one really was into them. I couldnt even get the bream to hit. I need a change of luck I guess!!!

Everyone has those days sometimes.:o When do you think the red ears will bed up ? Possiably full moon in May ? Conway used to be the spot for almost everything that swims short of Rainbow Shad (trout) That lake used to be it for Bream ,Bass , Crappie , and Flathead Catfish.
The crappie fishing was good all week on Nimrod. Then the weekend got here and it stalled . The quanity and quality dropped from what I saw at the fish cleanning station. They say the channel catfish are doing well. Nimrod is a better catfish lake than anything these days.

It shouldnt be long for the bream, i have been catching some full ones in smaller creeks and lakes, so it might still be a little for a larger lake like conway. I just found a good creek close to my house for some good cats, not huge, so you can actually eat them and have good taste. The Arkansas Sportsman magazine that I just got says May is the best time for Conway Bluegills.

    Default Warm Winter

I think this warm winter we had really messed the crappie up for Lake Conway. The lake really isn't that deep to begin with and the water temps not dropping to much over the cooler months seems to have done something to the fishing. This time of the year I should be limiting out on crappie in the flats by gold creek, but im lucky to catch 5 fish all day long. The crappie I caught in Feb had eggs and the crappie I caught in late march until now haven't had any. Either they have all spawned early or I can't count fin spines like I used to be able to. Eh well, the bass are starting to hit top water again and the pads are coming up really fast so its about time to find another lake to fish until November again.
