    Default I was wondering if

any of you have experienced this. Today I was looking for a place crappie might be hanging out in. I came upon a really nice pile of brush on a point in 20 fow. I dropped down a jig to the top of the pile and wham, a fat crappie on the hook. Then thump, thump and thump. Xring and I share our hot spots if oneor the other finds it so he came up in his boat and we both whacked them pretty hard. I had out a marker and knew exactly when I was over it but it was not there anymore. Xring moved out in deeper water and was thumping them again. I moved over too and there was my brush pile in the deeper water. This has happened to me before. Turns out that the brush pile was not a brush pile but was in fact a ball of crappie piled up and just suspending, not near any cover. We limited out in only a few minutes after working hard to catch anything all day. We used all different colors & sizes but the key today was to search 25' water on a steep break. I doubt they would be in the same place tomorrow, maybe in the same area.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

    Default Suspending fish

Suspending fish are nearly impossible to predict, they may be there tomorrow and they may not, there are alot of contributing factors as to why a fish suspends, usually suspending fish are hard to catch, generally they ain't in the mood to eat when they are suspending. When you find suspending fish that are actively feeding you have to make hay while the sunshines, and it sounds like you did, suspending fish ussually have a window or time frame that they feed and if you ain't there during that window or time frame you are S.O.L. And S.O.L = so outa luck.

lately i have been spending alot of time chasing the groups like you speak of... from what it looks like on the finder they are staged up 14-17 deep in 25ft water around what seem to be bait fish. get on them and mark it, catch a few and whooop they are gone... i do more spinning around with the troll than fishing lol but the view from the finder is soo soo addictive

catch and release: don't wanna eat the fish just wanna make it late for something

You say you found them initially suspended off a point in 20 feet of water. In my experiance they may suspend around that spot for days. Keep an eye on the area they are attracted to the spot for a reason and will probly visit it often to feed. HAHA im sure you an Xring will be both keeping an eye on that spot. LOL

Ray, we caught then suspended on a creek channel flat for weeks suspended this summer at Nimrod. But then they might move up or down the channel. Went out one day after loading up daily for weeks and they were gone! I'm new to this deep water fishing as Nimrod has very little deep water. But like any other predator fish they should suspend below Shad at times.

Xring was kind of leaning out the side of the boat today and a huge catfish grabbed his jig and almost jerked him out. At one time we almost could see him. That hog left slime for over seven feet of line and it did not get any slack. This is a great testament to the strength of that Mr Crappie 8# test.
The suspending crappie were more scattered today. They were in the general area as yesterday but more picky.
We caught some tightlining and some casting, just depended on the conditions. We did get a double limit but took us about 5 hours of steady fishing. We ran into a couple old friends in separate boats that are among the best crappie catchers on that lake and they both limited out but worked for them too. Life is good.

Speaking of Mr Crappie line, apparently Wally Marhshall has left BassPro and they no longer carry his line and I don't see anywhere on his site to order it. Does anyone know where else to get the hi-vis line or another comparable hi-vis?

    Thanks
