Default Advice on Arkansas Trout Fishing in November, December or January-Need som help?

My Son and I are looking at making a trout fishing adventure to Arkansas during the next couple of months. Sure would appreciate your ideas on where to go, where to stay, maybe a guide to use and also if we want to fish on our on after using a guide some recommended spots or places to fish. We are going to be somewhat mobile and can move around some or stay in the same place if the fishing warrants. We will not be taking a boat. Also, is this the time whan a person has a better chance of catching some large trout?

Thanks for any information you might pass along either by posting of a pm.

    Appreciate the Information:

    Ron, Mud-Dabber

I have always had good luck fishing the White in Eureka Springs. Off of hwy 62 after the bridge is a place with cabins and fishing boats and tackle. You can also bank or wade fish off there property. If you go down to the dam, (dam road is off 62 after bridge) they have a campsite with accsess to wade and bank fishing. It is a barbless and artifical bait only area. The store on the way to the dam can tie you some flys and give advice. Maybe even guide. I think the place is called White River Outfitters. A great place to camp is called Kings River Outfitters. The guys name is Errnie and tell him you want to camp in paradise. He also would be a great source of info. We went small mouth fishing there a couple of weeks ago and he actually gave me tackle from his personal collection because we were not catching with are own. Ended up catching about 30 smallies that afternoon.

Jack's out of Mountain View has lodging, guides and good fishing. Jenkins out of Calico Rock are very good, too. I don't think they have lodging, at least on the river. There are numerous good guides and places to stay around Norfork, Cotter and Flippin.

If you want to fish the Little Red River instead of the White, Lindsey's below Heber Springs is good.

Try Norfork River resort in Norfork. I used to stay at their resort a couple of times a year. 1st class cabins and guides. You can rent boats too. Take you own groceries and do your own cooking or plan on driving a peice to a reasturant.

I always fished where the white and norfork meet with the best luck, nice rainbows, browns and cutthroat.... Cotter always had cabins, guides, and even boat-motor rentals at a fair price..... The Upper White river " close to the dam" always had lots of fish but most were smaller.... The Little Red around Heber Springs seems to usually have little current and lots of slime. My advice would be to take a guide the first day and remeber the spots for the next day when you rent a boat.

While motoring the river around the Cotter area I have seen some giant trout. We had a guide years ago that took us looking at big fish at the end of the day.... He seemed to know just what rock they would be behind or what hole they would be in... The guide said he had fished for hours and day on end for each one of those fish and they would not bite anything. These fish were all over 12 or 15 pounds.

Mammoth Spring at the head waters of the spring river, is without a doubt the best wading trout stream in the state, lots of accomadation's beautiful waterfalls every couple of miles or less. Loaded with trout and the most liberal regulations the state has. Also not far from below Norfork and Bull shoals dam. Check out the spring while your there, its amazing. The fish taste better to due to the spring feed stream. Trust me You will like it.
