I am curious what is the oddest thing some of you have caught while using minnows or jigs and going after crappie...?

I've often wondered if my dad and I were the exception or the rule. We used to catch a variety of things other than crappie when we were using minnows or jigs. (Not excluding the occasional wood fish). Even after I moved down here to Brinkley, I"ve added to that list of oddities on a couple of occasions.

    Just curious...

A fresh water eel is about the strangest I guess, I have caught a bull frog on a jig one time, and also a water snake. All of these were actual catches none of them were snagged, the creatures actually bit and were hooked in the mouth.

I caught a fish last Monday on Conway that i have never seen before. Don't have a camera on my phone, so i couldnt take pictures, but it looked like a white bass. Not a very thick fish, and mostly white except for the yellowish color on the bottom of its jaws and belly. I"ve descibed it several folks and they all guessed it was a talapia. Does that sound crazy? Any ideals? I"ve caught one before on bream beds on Conway, with a cricket.

More than likely, that was a Yellow Bass. They are rare, but they look just like a White Bass except they have a yellowish tinge to their lower half.

Best fight I ever had was from a rockfish about the size of a softball,in swift current they are hard to hold and land. The drag on my reel hasn't been the same after that battle of 30 mins. or more.Partner wanted to put it the live well but I told him they were not worth the trouble of cleaning.Guess I've caught most fish in our waters on a jig from flatheads to shinners...two years ago I caught my first flier, pretty fish.

Yellow bass is my guess too. They are plentiful on Dardanelle, especially at Shoal Bay. For some reason they stocked them here a few yrs back. They are ferocious fighters.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

Don't understand why anyone would stock yellow bass!! They are a nuisance on Lake Conway! Maybe someone can tell me what good they are.
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
