What is this snake?

i was surprised at how many alligator snapping turtles this river here has in it. i was with a man once that was running his nets and in 3 nets he had caught 9 of them up to probably 50 lbs. he said it was common to catch them in the nets. and i caught one once on a trot line in greers ferry lake. you could get a soft ball in it's mouth. i got it in the boat and tied it up with a rope. it had it's mouth open and i stuck my paddle in it's mouth and it split the paddle. i tied it out at the camp ground and my brother turned it loose. i hope it's still living and that was back in the 60's.

you should have let him live, he would make a good watch dog for theives, and robbers

Its a copper head . They are all over the place around here. Sneaky, sorry , rotten suckers . They don't run or make any noise . They lay in places you don;t think about . They bite anything that gets near them . Dead , shot , squashed don't care . You need a medal .

Pics are not real great the snake is sheding its skin, which makes the eyes milky looking, If it were a posinious snake natural to Indiana it would have cat like eyes. All pit vipers , copperhead, rattler and mocision have cat like eyes, All non, posinious snakes natural to Indiana have pupil like eyes like your own. The fact that the pics show no rattles in inconclusive, rattlers that have been injured at sometime in their life may not display rattles. Just my opinon based on what I can see in the pics.
