Welcome to the site! Beaver is for sure an outstanding crappie fishery. I have been hitting up some of the smaller lakes in the area until the lake clears. I also have been fishing a bit in the rambo arm and catching some nice slabs. Hickory Creek Marina use to rent fishing boats also, you may try that. It is a good end of the lake for crappie. JT do you spider rigg, tight line jig or just cast jigs? I just can't figure out crappie fishing in Beaver up on that end in that clear water. I think I just don't fish deep enough.
My eldest son has been tearing up the white bass fishing up the river from the bank.
I tight line and cast jigs. Think small jig and fish deep on the north end of the lake. Molder Hollow, the Clifty's and Rambo are all good. I look for fish to hold most of the year in small pockets off of these coves that have timber in 25 to 45 feet of water. most of the time the fish will b just off the bottom or suspended around 20 feet deep. lightblue/pearl, licorice and pink/white are all good colors. I like Bobby Garland baby shad on a 1/32 oz. jig head.
JT thanks for the info. I'll have to try the clear water again if the lake ever clears up. How do you get a 1/32 jig down that deep? You must be more patient than I am. You must use 4 or 6 lb test. I fished Greers Ferry lake last fall and the last day I caught some crappie in 30 foot of water, I caught several crappie at 5 to 6 feet on a structure I was fishing and then I dropped a small 1/4 oz shad shaped lead spoon to the bottom of the structure and pulled it up a couple of feet and started catching more crappie close to the bottom. It amazed me. I've got a lot to learn about fishing this clear water, heck I still have a lot learn about all crappie fishing. That's what makes it fun I guess.
It does take forever to get down that deep! I just watch my line for a hit on the way down (I use Vicious 6 pound hi vis neon green line to see the hits better). You can also try to put a small pea sized split shot up your line about 18", this will make it hard to feel lite bites though. Good Luck!Quote:
