Old river near georgetown

There's an old river channel down from Georgetown on the White River. I've been there twice fishing as a tag along with a friend and didn't do any good. He claims you can tear the crappie up if you catch it right. Does anybody have any experience fishing there? I've got a boat of my own and was thinking about checking it out.
