    Question Pallet Buckets?

I have access to some pallets and looking at CP's post today it made me wonder how well some pallet buckets would work? I was thinking i could yank the slats off and rip them in half long ways and then stuff em in some crete like what was sunk in gold creek. I know I could just make some whole pallet steak beds but I'm afraid they would be a pain to get sunk and I would probably go about sinking these by myself under the cover of darkness LOL
What kind of wood do you reckon pallets are made from and how long do you think they'd last?
    Thanks for any input!

I don't know what kind of wood to use, but i do know that most pallets are "shot' with screw shank nails and are a "bugger" to get apart. Im afraid you will spend more time than its worth trying to get the pallets apart....just my opinion as i have worked with pallets for awhile

Good point but I figured a sawzall blade run under the slats would do the trick Thumbs Up

If I was going to use buckets , I'd try to find hardwood scraps at a local mill. Otherwise look for hardwood pallets. Some are pine or who knows what? I have no trouble sinking pallet stakebeds alone.

Most pallets are oak or some other hard wood due to the way they are used and loads they have to hold.

Best way to check is drive a nail into the pallets. Seasoned Oak can be awful hard to drive a nail in.

hotrod98 - just want you to know i posted the thread on (stake beds) a bit back! Me and dad sunk 6 of the 12 i have made yesterday. FYI it wasnt as hard as i thot! I got so worried about all the posts on not having enough weight so i pilled a couple up on the 4wheeler trailer to a nearby pond and tried it myself! 2 cinder blocks worked very good in 6 to 8 foot of water where i sunk em! I think people are leaving to much wood on em making them harder to sink i guess but we had no probs! Stay away from hard oak main frame pallets! Ash, tupelo, pine work best.. you can use pry bar and hammer and never use dewalt! we tied a cotton string to center stake to make sure it dropped correctly and they all did! just cut string and do again! We also tied soda bottles to string till we where done so we could mark a good center way point on GPS! Hope i helped!
