    Default Bream on Lake Conway

The wife and I are thinking about doing some bream fishing on Lake Conway this coming week. Haven't been on the lake for about 20 years and was wondering if someone could give me some info about the best area to fish how deep, ect.

Thanks for any and all info you can give me.

I can tell you two pretty big areas not to bother with unless you really like being hung up(the boat) on stumps. Fished 2 days on a tube of crickets and threw half of 'em away when we came off the water today. I have never seen bream fishin that sucked as bad as the last two days on any body of water any where.

We did manage to catch about 15 crappie yesterday but the size was not all that hot. Only had a couple too small to eat but turned all of em loose.

Me and a guy I work with went today and kept 41 bream. Had some pretty nice ones, and we threw back probably 20 small ones. But we really had to work for them. The lake just isn't the same anymore.

IF they are on the beds, you can smell them sometimes. The shellcrackers normally bed in a little deeper water than gills.

From what I hear Conway has not been very good since the draw down about 5 years ago. My in-laws, who live on the lake say it has been better this year than the last 4.

What part of the lake were you fishing if you dont mind me asking. We fished out of Dan's @ Gold Creek and yesterday went to the Adams Lake landing and fished back to the north. That was our first time to put in there and it looked like a heck of a bream area with all the stumps and logs but it was pitiful.

I've got a cabin across the cove from the launch at Adams Lake. We caught about 80 good bream in the cove last weekend but it was terrible this weekend. Only caught 14 yesterday morning and about 20 on Sunday.

On the other hand, we had some yoyos out in the green cypress trying to catch crappie and ended up catching some awesome fat sow channel cats.

Were you the guys in the two-man puddle boat that looked kinda lost when you first got there?

Was in the camo war eagle that launched right in front of those guys.

They may have been lost but they had the right attitude. I made a comment to them that I hoped the fish would bite and one of the guys said...the fish are not going to keep me from having a good day.

I need to find out where he got that and buy a truck load.

We went to a little Lake 2 weeks ago and caught 63, mostly redears a few gills. But Memorial Day we went to a different small lake that we have fished Memorial Day the last 2 years and caught 35 or so monster gills on each trip, this time we only caught a few off the original bed we normally fish. Found another bed on a penisula loaded with washed in leaves, the beds were there the fish were not, oh there were a few but very spooked in the very clear water. Makes me wonder if someone else may have done wore it out or if they are just pretty much done spawning. Personally I think they are done.

Soswine, I remember seeing you and I believe it was your gal. That was me and my son in the little flatbottom way back in the cove. By going north you were in what used to be called the "logjams" and is by far the stumpiest area of the lake.

I've spent my last 20 Memorial Day weekends bream fishing up there and this is the first year I wasn't able to catch all I cared to take and the fish keep getting smaller every year. But I still have some crickets left so I'm going back late this evening.
