    Default Oxbow Awesome!!

Got a great report last Thursday on a place I have been waiting all spring to get right. The problem with oxbow fishin is sometimes the rivers dont get right when we want them too. But she finally got right and it was once in a lifetime insanely AWESOME!!! and that is grossly understated.

    So lets go fishin!!

Picked Dad up right after daylight and we headed for the honey hole. My aunt and uncle were along too in thier rig and we were hoping to get a repeat of thier previous day. We had no idea this day would cement it's place in our fishing memories so impressively.

Lots of folks love hill contry and it is pretty but for my money, I'll take an oxbow in the delta every time.

The bluegills ran hugh and were thick as the dang gnats. Thank goodness we had a stiff breeze pretty much all day. Most of the time I hate the wind but I am not sure we could have stood to fish without it.

If there was anything to fuss about at all it was the overall size of the crappie. We had to do a lot of culling but who really minds catching lots of fish??:D

I didnt get as many photos as I would have liked but there was almost no chance of getting anyone to put a rod down to run a camera. I finally did take a couple on the last bid gill bed we found.

Big bulls in clear water are just about as pretty as they come imo.

At the end of day Friday, we were almost relieved that Saturday was going to be a wash out because we had a big chore in front of us.

We weighed and good sampling of the gills and the avg worked out to 3/4 of a pound. It was one of the very best gill catches I have been part of in atleast 30 years.

After an entire day of pretty intensive culling we ended up with a pretty respectable pile of crappie too.

I cant begin to tell ya'll how much fun it was to be back in the boat with Dad for a day like this one. I really hated that my wife missed it though. She would have been completely ruined.

I hope ya'll each have a day like this before the season is up.

    Prosperous Bayou looks good.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and
a gun the goes bang when it is supposed to go click.

Absolutely AWESOME catch......congratulations and thanks so much for the pics.....those bream pics renews my faith that the bulls are still around....The last good catch I had on bulls was in 1958 on Eagle Lake(Vicksburg, Ms..oxbow).....we filled up a 48 qt. box with one pounder bream....on crickets....I thought the pesticides had ruined them forever so I have been fishing bass and sacs....

That oxbow looked beautiful......knats have moved into S. La. also..

    good fishing
