Default River Rat Opinions on White River Lakes

With the White still flooded out in most places, what do you guys w/ experience think this means for fishing in general (not just crappie)? If it were to go down now should fishing be good, fair, bad??? I've heard some say it fell too quickly earlier in the spring and the fish went out w/ the fall (before spawning). Just wondering..

It depends, the catfishing would be excellent, especially trotlining, the smaller bream and crappie will be in the woods, fish under any pecan trees you can find, the larger spawning fish will be in their bedding areas the same as they would if the water was low, you just have to fish 8 feet deep instead of 18 inches. Bass fishing is the hardest, they will be in the woods also.

You think if the water falls out now they'd stay in those lakes? Would it depend on how fast it drops out?

A fast fall out usually means it will take a few days for the bite to come back after the water level stabilizes but the fishing will still be very good once it does. Atleast that has been my experience.

    That's been mine, too.

I agree with the other posters, I was raised at Maddox Bay and have fished there all my life, I have always heard the tale that the fish will leave if the water falls to fast, In my opinion it actually seems that it is better to fall fast because the fish know the water is falling and will look for the deepest holes to get in, that being the small lakes.
