    Default Gold Creek "The Birds"

Went up to Lake Conway Gold Creek Tuesday...It is official...the Crappie have sent out the " Shut Down Notice"...for the first time in a very long time...I didn't even get a bite. Fished for 3 hours...MINNOWS, JIGS, AND COMBOS. NOTHING...didn't even get a bream bite with the nibblets on... What I did see was straight out of the movie "The Birds" Gulls and Pellicans where everywhere in the pond...giving me bad looks and in there by the hundreds...none of them buzzed or attacked...but poop bombs were dropping enough to warrant a quick exit...it was nuts. Shad were floating up to surface...dead. Sup with that...lake turnover?? The Gulls were making quick diving meals...and the Pellicans were gulping them up with thoses over grown beak sacks. They did do a nice job of cleaning up though. Guess I will give Clear Lake a try soon.

Water temp gets cold enough the Shad will start to die off. That is why the birds were there and probably the fish were too full of Shad to eat your bait.

Target practice? Prolly illegal, but, would be fun. In the 70's when they drew Conway down, duck hunted and fished the deep holes at the same time, man the crappie and bass were really hungry that year!
