Default What Has Happened to Lake Dardanelle

What has happened to Dardanelle? This use to be a hot Crappie lake and I know that was some good fishing over there because I done some of it. You never see any post about it or hear any stories about good catches. I just wonder if any one still fishes it or if there is no one over there that is part of the post here. Would like to hear some news from that area.
If the good Lord is willing and the creeks dont rise I'll catch a slab today.

The Game & Fish has a Bioligist looking into Dardanelle. They say that all the thread fin shad left the pool, The Game & Fish did some checking for spawns in lakes and they said there wasn't one on Dardanelle and there was hardly any adult crappie. The last I heard they was trying to figure out why.

I've wondered the same thing. I lived there in 2005 and did real good in the Piney Creek area. Most of what I caught were the black nose crappie, good sizes and numbers then.

It's too far for me to fish! But I don't have a lot of confidence in a 'river system' lake. I like a place where to fish populations are stable and not washed down-river after the big waters hit.

Plenty of backwaters there. They could not have all washed away.

This may be true, but if there was a problem with the spawn, I would think it would have been from a drastic change in water level. To my knowledge the Gov. has not been yo-yoing the level to an extent that would affet the spawn. Also as Nimrod noted, there is enough back area in the pool to give the fish adequate area to stay in and spawn. I certainly dont believe that the shad are gone, because if that should happen, all the rest of the fish population would also be adversly affected. It has been several years since I fished over there, but the last time I did, the fish were healthy and fat as they could be. This has been three to four years, but there were shad out the gazoo over there then. Mayby there is a Game & Fish person on the site that could give us some first hand info concerning the river and its pools.
