We figured out the crappie today! We wound up with 29 pretty crappie, 2 green carp, and a good size brim. Water has cooled to 84 degrees. We were fishing 12-14 feet deep in 17-23 feet of water, using minnows. The biggest one was a shade under 2lbs according to my scales.

woot nice mess!!
GOOD CATCH! They been mostly shallow at Nimrod. Hitting jigs with a few nice fish, lots of dinks. Not unusual to catch 50 to 100 every morning. Glad you found them down there. Like they say ''build it and the Crappie will come''

Were they over brush or on the flats???
I knew you'd find 'em. I might go to Shouse' Ford later this next week.

Good Job AH....they will eat good too....:D
If the good Lord is willing and the creeks dont rise I'll catch a slab today.
Wow, great catch. Glad you got on them.
Thanks guys! FYI: The crappie we caught today had food in their bellies....the few we caught last week had empty bellies.
BTW, the guy on the left in the photo is my dad....the boy on the right is one of my students...I'm conveniently holding the camera. :D
AJ, they were over the bamboo crappie condos. I will admit my "personal spots" were a bit more productive than the FFA/Corp condos. I'm pretty sure that's because the FFA/Corp condos in the Brushy Creek part of the lake were too shallow. The ones near Shouse Ford might be deep enough, I'm not sure. They've really dropped the lake the past couple of weeks.
Water temp was 80 degrees, not 84 like I said in my first post....it was 84 last weekend.

We caught 35 crappie today. No pictures this time, but dad and I almost caught our limit. We probably would have if we hadn't been run off the lake by ski boats and tubers.

You guys are just doin' a bang-up job on the specks and that's what it's all about. You have put in the time and effort and now you are reaping the harvest.
You should consider writing these stories down--especially the ones that include your dad. I wish I had done so when my dad was alive. Now the ones I write are dependent upon a memory 32 years distant.
These are the good times for you buddy. Take plenty of photos and write up the stories. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for sharing your information.
I went to DeGray intending on fishing minnows from some of the spots I have marked. It has been two weeks since I have been there. It has dropped about 5 ' ??The tops of the brush were sicking out of the water.
So....I tied my bandits back on. I thought it was going to be a wash until I found a pile that matched your description. I put my minnows back on and did pretty good.
I still don't know where I was at exactly. I need to get a map so I can tell you. I was way up the lake in a cove that is across from a huge island. The old river is on the other side of the island.
I ended up with 8 crappie, a couple of bass, and a pretty good bream. I also landed a couple of pike. Sure wished I knew how to dress those pike.
