Default Gen 2 Lowrance HDS Touch 7 Issue

When we were out sampling the nursery pond cove the other day was the first time my sonar has been turned on in a couple of months. It took longer than usual to fire up and when it did only the map would work. Both the regular sonar screen and the side imaging sonar screen looked as if nothing was going on. Both screens were white where the sonar returns should have been displaying and the spot where depth and temp normally are displayed were blanks (--). I tried turning it off and on several times and nothing changed its working order. I just attached a gen 3 HDS touch 7 head unit from work boat and everything worked as it should. So my transducers are fine. About the only trouble shooting info that I can find in the manual is to reset the sonar head unit. Has anyone else had this problem, know what caused it, or how to fix it? Thanks.

I assume you made sure the cables were securely connected? if so, a hard reset may be in order. if so, I hope you have your waypoints saved on a microchip! I have the gen2 7 touch as well and have never had any trouble except when I dropped my first one off my boat when loading at Dano's last year. Lowrance sent me a new one in three days with no questions asked even though I told the rep I had dropped it from five feet and that it was out of warranty. good luck with it Matt. Paul

Yeah I triple checked the connections by disconnecting and connecting and powering it up three different times. Then I tried the other head unit to confirm that something was wrong with my head unit. I have my coordinates on a memory card so I will try the reset and see. Thanks.

The touch screen on mine quit working. Went through Lowrance's warranty procedure and had a new unit in a few days.

If you can't get it to work , Google "hard reset " and try doing this procedure see if it fixes the problem, I had mine glitch a few times and the hard reset fixed the problem, if the unit is eitherneted to another unit be sure to disconnect and remove all SD cards or all info , waypoints, settings etc , will be lost during hard reset

I believe you press and hold the zoom/in zoom/out button and the power on button until unit turns off and will then reboot! Restoring factory settings an refreshing unit , I may be wrong , I don't have the Gen 2 touches anymore and been awhile since I messed with em

Thanks Greg. I'll give that a try first thing in the morning and see what happens.

Neither the soft or hard resets worked! Looks like I need to call Lowrance.

I have to send in my head unit for replacement. The company who administers Lowrance's warenty work, offered to upgrade my Gen 2 Touch 7 to a Gen 2 Touch 9 for $230. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
