Minnow Tank

While at walmart get a single water filter for your water hose.

Bought a 2 port bubbler and some bait bucket treatment. I let the water circulate for 24h befor adding the last batch of minnows, so that wasn't the problem. Hopefully the water treatment and the bubbler will solve the problem. Thanks for the advice.

Didn't think about it but I do use water from a well, no chlorine!!

The blue RV filters at Walmart will remove the harmful chemicals from tap water. Just screw it on your hose and let her rip. No Better Bait or treatments needed.

Well water for minnows in a holding tank may need to be filtered too. Do you have a whole house inline filter?

Nope. Probably should though. We just have a filter on the fridge for water and ice.

Do y'all think that the activated carbon in the aquarium filter will take the water additives (Finer Shiner etc) out of the water, negating their effectiveness?

My holding tank is 3 years old and has the double filter pump. A new filter will remove more than an older filter. When I do a water change I shake the old filters in a bucket of the old water to rinse. I replace one of the filters once a year. The old water is used when watering flower pots and containers.

Make sure you rinse out the new filters before you put them in.

The key to keeping Minnows is to change 75% of the water every 3-5 days depending on the time of year. If the water smells, it needs to be changed as ammonia and fish waste will build up in your tank, even with a decent filter system.

Never put Minnows in your tank that have been exposed to lake water.

I put a pound of minners in the tank today. Hopefully they will live to be hammered by a crappie.
