What Would RCC Do?!?!?

I find myself, more and more, asking myself a very important question:

What would RCC do?!?!?!?

This has led to some very creative fishing innovations.

I don't have all the fancy tools he has, or even a smidgen of the know-how but I'm trying my best.

Case in point: With a 20 oz soda bottle, a can of day glow orange spray paint, a little duct tape, 20 feet of twine and a 3/4 ounce lead sinker I can make pretty good redneck version of one of those fancy marker buoys.

Just thinking of what RCC would do turns me into a veritable genius. I can feel my IQ climbing into double digits!

That's pretty good that a fella would go to the expense of buying paint!

I'm more of drink a Dr. Pepper, scrounge around the boat and find 4 or 5 decoy lines that got cut, find one decoy weight in amongst the twigs leaves and mud in the bottom of the boat and pull out a couple of those red melted corks that I've had in my tackle box ever since my dad gave them to me 40 years ago and work on it from there.

Instead of paint, peel the label off the Dr. Pepper bottle, insert those melted corks(this will give you the color you want)and recap the bottle, tie on the first decoy string around the neck of the bottle and then connect them all together to get the desired length, add weight to the end of the decoy line.

I spend no money and get my boat and tackle box cleaned out at the same time!!

I prefer a pool noodle, and cut it into 4 pieces, same idea, and you have 4 markers, and you save on the $2 20 oz Dr. Pepper.

I know a fellow that cuts out blocks of Cedar in ''H'' shape , winds on a little trotline cord and uses homemade lead sinkers. I pefer to buy the cheapo plastic ones for a couple bucks.

Since it was asked "what would RCC do"? I feel obligated to supply an answer. To be equipped for all types of fishing requires several types of marker buoys...

1. For a casual day on the lake, the standard orange 3 dollar marker buoy with 25' of string and a lead strap weight can hardly be beat.
2. For a busy day on the lake, you first start with the Orange marker with lead strap weight. As boats begin to notice your marker and inch toward you, it is necessary to switch types of markers which consist of the orange plastic H marker tied to a 3 hole brick. When the first person gets within 30 yards, you "mark some fish" with the brick bat marker thrown in his general direction. I call this "the warning shot". If they continue your direction wait until they "get within range" and mark some fish exactly on their boat followed by theses words after the impact "HEADS UP...I"M SORRY I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU WERE FISHING SO CLOSE.
3. The mini marker...Small fishing float painted black wound on 1/2 ounce weight. These are also good for crowded lake days but really "shine" for that night fishing friend who will not show you his secret spot, but will blind fold you on the trip to and back from that secret spot. Easily stored in a heavy jacket you can carry 50 or 60 of these mini markers. As the boat makes its way out to the secret spot, you can drop these markers a short distance apart without the "guide" noticing. The next morning when the sun comes up, you will have a bread crumb trail blazed out to your buddies secret fishing hole.
4. The rover marker. This is any type of marker of no value with just enough weight and string so that the marker will slightly move with the current or wind. These are used as dummy markers strategically placed down current or down wind of your true target so other competitor anglers will gradually be moving away from you. If by chance, they stumble on some fish while following your dummy marker, it is then time to "pick your marker up". This can then be followed by example #2 of marker type and usage.
