Got some new line to try today .
I got to wondering, has anybody tried using clear nylon or polyester sewing thread to fish with ?

Ordered a spool of Varivas Blue Moon Fluorocarbon 1.5# line to give a try .
I hope I can see it to tie on my micro jigs .
Thought it was time to get serious about my micro fishing adventures.![]()
The 2# Ande line I’m using at the moment is 0.12mm diameter.
The 1.5# Varivas BMF is 0.090mm .
The Ande is IGFA Tournament line that breaks at or below its rating .
I’m thinking the Varivas BMF should be at least as strong as the Ande .
It’ll be going on a Shimano Soare bb 500spg that’ll I’ll replace the handle knob bushings with two sets ball bearings .
The rod will be a 5’2” SeaSir Stream UL rod .
I’ve gone to a size 14 Mustad 3X long streamer hook with a 4mm Tungsten cyclops bead for my micro jigs . Caught and held a 2# spotted bass yesterday, guessing it’ll be great on the small gills I catch or anything else that wants a tiny morsel to snack on .

I’ve caught some big fish on the Blue Moon back in TN. I mean drum in the 20 pound range. It is a good line. Like all FC of course it is more wirery than nylon. My last trip out I used it on a bunch of crappie up at Poinsette. But a few days ago I took it off my reel. It had been on that reel for over 2 years and still did fine. But I can no longer see it. Which is a shame because it is a great panfish line. I’ll either replace it with hi-vis ester or the Twitch Master nylon in 3# test. I can see both of those. Hope it works out for you.

Randy , I ordered the Blue Moon specifically after watching your recent video and then going back and watching a few other of your videos that featured Blue Moon Fluorocarbon.
I too hope it works out . It is thin !
I’ve had pretty good luck with the Ande Tournament 2# line . And it comes in a flourescent yellow that’s easy to see when tying something on . The green isn’t bad either. Small diameter, but does break below the 2# rating .

I got to fish the Blue Moon line today at the local docks .
I’d spooled it onto a Shimano Soare bb500spg and mounted it on a 5’2” SeaSir Stream UL rod .
For comparison I took my 5’6” SeaSir Stream UL paired with a Soare XR c2000sspg , spooled with 2# Ande Tournament Yellow line .
Both had a 4mm tungsten bead streamer jig tied on in black .
On My first cast with the Blue Moon line , I cast along the dock to my right up next to the posts . Immediately something grabbed my jig and dove under the docks ,
I ran down to the space the fish had gone , but it had turned after going under the dock and the line was against two posts . It didn’t take long to snap off the jig .
There was very little wind this morning, the calm before the storm due here around one this afternoon.
After several casts , I got a good feel for the distance the combo was going to get and was a little disappointed. I wasn’t getting any more distance using the Blue Moon over the 2#Ande . A little less distance actually. And unless I saw where my jig landed , I had no idea where it was at , as I could not see the line .
After about forty minutes I switched reels to confirm that the Ande was out casting the Blue Moon and was correct . And with the yellow color , I knew where my jig was at .
I caught five fish with the two largest on the combo after I swapped reels .
So the Ande’s yellow color doesn’t seem to bother the fish .
When I got home I spooled the Blue Moon onto a silicone line holder to use for leaders .
I’ve tried copolymer, nylon , Fluorocarbon , and braid .
I’m think I like nylon the best , so far .
I don’t think I care for line without some stretch , and the copolymer lines I’ve used have a tendency to curl if stressed .
I included a picture of the short end of the docks to show the post arrangement that’s been robbing me lately .
I fish the inside mostly .
The other side is longer and I would have taken a picture of that side but there were people over there and I try not to take pictures of folks without their permission.

I tried out the Blue Moon FC 3lb a few weeks ago. First time fishing any kind of fluorocarbon line, so take my opinion with many grains of salt.
Overall, I wasn't a fan -- lots of line popping off the reel. A big part of that may have been using it on a tiny-spool reel (Okumo Ceymar C10) and somewhat windy conditions. It casted fine but nothing special. After losing many yards to wind knots, I wound up just laying 50 yards 2lb. Sufix Nanobraid over it as replacement main line.
I still have half a spool of the Blue Moon FC in my line stash, and I'll get it a shot at a future date on a bigger reel once I have more experience.
gillchaser999 LIKED above post
I had mine on a size 500 Shimano.
I didn’t experience any popping off the spool , it just didn’t cast as far as I expected and when I had that fish break off so quick , I think it was because it didn’t have any stretch .
Monofilament nylon just seems easier to fish with .
And that found some colored line in 2# . This maybe my replacement for my Floroclear Ive been using .
And it’s on sale at the moment, so I ordered myself another spool of each color .
I tested the breaking strength of the Ande line using my hand held trigger scale checker and consistently got 1.75# for the rated 2# .
I was impressed how long the line held with a 3-4# bass that swam under the docks the other day.

I haven’t used FC In a while and what I used was heavier than what y’all are using. I wasn’t a fan for all the reasons already stated and haven’t revisited it since. I have enough frustrations with what I use now. Appreciate all of y’all’s input and saving me some time, trouble and money.
