Default Handing Magic L S472UL - new creek rod

A spur-of-the-moment order came in today -- Handing Magic L S472UL was $35 on Aliexpress, and I was looking for a short, fast action rod for local creeks.

I only had a chance to play with it for an hour or so. No fish, and lost two jigs to rocks in the current. I'm still learning how to fish creeks, and am finding spinners and rooster tails are safer bets so far.

The rod feels great and handles well fishing in the brush around the creek. I paired it with a Legalis LT1000, which was part of the first UL combo I acquired last summer. 3lb. Varivas Ajing Master fluoro on the reel.

Still need to put some hours on this combo (and a few others...) to really get the few of it.

(Also, how in the heck does one rotate pics on this site? The image is upright, but loads here sideways.)

Congrats on the new rod .
I like short rods and love fishing creeks .
I usually use jigs . Trying to use enough weight to cast and get down in the strike zone without getting hung up a lot is challenging. And once you think you go the right combo a snag gets you.
You’re going to lose some jigs .
Best cast that helps is a quartering downstream cast and fish the swing , then twitch back up stream .
I was looking at the 4’6” in that rod but I prefer a shorter handle.
Good luck with your new rod but.

Now , with the picture turned , the handle doesn’t look as long .

Great Looking set-up. I haven't fished a creek in far to many years...

Thanks for rotating that image, SuperDave!

The butt is about 8" long (measured from the reel foot), which seems to me about right for the short rod. But I agree about not prefering a long-handled rod...but also not too short. I have an old Abu Garcia light spinning rod from when I was a kid and its handle is so short it doesn't secure well in my kayak's rod holder.

I'm taking my boys and their friend fishing tomorrow and will probably have one of them use the Magic L since it's easy to manage. (They prefer spincast, but I only have one in the arsenal.) Hopefully we can find some hungry fish!

So to rotate the photo on of the mods can give you an assist like SD or I find if toy crop it ever so slightly before uploading it will be correct. There is a test page you can use to do test images as well. https://www.crappie.com/crappie/testing-area/
