JDM Rod Info Source

What is the best on line catalog, info source for JDM rods that I can read and understand. Call me lazy if you want, my wife sometimes does. But I don't want to have to translate and/or figure things out. I want to browse through some rods to see what is offered, compare features and prices, etc. I'd like to see as many different brands and models as possible. Is there such a site? It would seem that with the US interest in JDM tackle somebody must have a catalog that caters to US anglers.

Nope…no such catalog. They know that US anglers will not pay the money so they do not market here. Yet pick just about any other area of the world and they market to it. I started my YouTube channel for this very reason. Some others have since done the same. I’ve spent countless hours researching JDM over the past decade. I get emails every week of someone asking me for info about reels…rods…and so on. You can go to Tackle Tour and ask questions but it is an extremely slow process on that forum. Believe it or not crappie.com has become one of the leading reference spots for UL JDM gear.

OK. Thank you for that info about no info. : Outside of cheapskates like me I would think there would be plenty of people willing to spend some money. Heck fly fisherman spend four figures on a single rod and reel. Look at the money people are putting into the electronics on their boats these days. I know JDM tackle is expensive but it doesn't seem to be prohibitively out of range of those folks. At any rate thanks for the reply.

Don’t get me wrong….lot of folks into JDM UL rods…just not enough to bring them here for those companies to make a profit. Now JDM bass gear is here. Major Craft, MegaBass….and others have a stateside presence. As Chris put it “ All crappie folks are not poor and all trout guys are not rich” But trout guys will spend the money.

Reasonably priced JDM equipment is out there if you want to get your feet wet .
Most of my JDM rods are under $100 .
I pay more for my St. Croix rods .
I have paid $200 for a reel , and I think it was worth it .
I like super lightweight tackle and with the exception of St. Croix haven’t found any except the JDM rods I’ve bought .

Well I have 2 St. Croix rods an Avid 5' ULF and a Premier 5' 6" ULM. They are my mainstays. I prefer the Premier for its moderate action. Had them out today for a couple of hours. Went out too late and got skunked. They cast nice with that 4# Twitchmaster.

But I just wanted to have a look at the JDM rods and see what is out there that might suit my style if I manage to save a few bucks for she money. I'll look around and see what shows up. I'd just prefer to browse in one place for easy comparisons. Guys on here are frequently posting info about their tackle and it is nice to read. But frequently no cost is given.

Bill , I too wanted to dip my toes into the JDM was all about , but after the dust has settled , I love my St Croix rods and if that’s all I had , I’d be happy . Even my entry level Triumphs are nice rods .

You're a lousy salesman, fella. More and more you're selling me on what I already have. Those two St. Croix of mine have done everything I wanted them to do for a lot of years. I have a Pfleuger President size 20 on the Avid and that reel has never disappointed me. I put a recently acquired Kastking Zephyr 1000 SFS on the Premier. So far I am happy with that reel. It is absolutely smooth with no hitches and I like the shallow spool. I only wish it had an on/off switch for the anti-reverse. It remains to be seen how it holds up. I don't get the casting distances you do but I am fishing 4# mono from Varivas.

Maybe I should just stop drooling over all this JDM stuff. What I have is respectable equipment. But it seems like all that is talked about is JDM on this sub forum.
