I got my new reel on Monday , but didn’t get to fish it until today
I mounted it on my St Croix Avid 6’ ULF , mainly because it’s the lightest weight 6’ rod I own and with the Soare weighing a mere 5.3oz , I wanted a lightweight combo .
Actually the plan was to swap reels with my Abu Garcia Mass Beat rod that I had paired with my Shimano Symetre 500FL , but I was enjoying fishing the Symetre on my favorite rod that I never got around to swapping them out .
But I did fish the Soare and St Croix combo some and enjoyed the new reel .
The Soare is a 4.7/1 ratio reel and is the first Shimano reel in my last ten Shimano purchases that I didn’t have to oil up before taking it fishing .
It performed awesome . Very easy and smooth to wind and has an easy start up .
The drag is great too , with multiple clicks add variable adjustability over a wide range .
It has a shallow spool which only holds 110 yards of 2# test .
It was a windy day , but didn’t notice any difference in my casts and those with my 1000 size reels , using 1/64th and 1/32 oz jigs .
This reel is smoother than the Nasci and Sahara 500’s that I’ve recently purchased .
I don’t see how a Vanford would be worth double the price of this reel .
My next trip I’ll put the Soare BB on my Abu Garcia and give it a better work out and report back .
This is the only pic I have of it for now .
