Which Daiwa did you see for that money? I have a few Shimano saharas that are smooth after a couple of years in salt water, and a couple of Daiwa Regal Lt in 2500 that di the same duty, no issues with either. I’m still shopping for a 500s, and tha Sahara doesn’t have a shallow spool and is noticeably heavier.
Skeet ,I own a couple of newest Shimano 22 Sahara 500’s . Also a couple of Nasci 500’s . Some of the newer Shimano I’ve purchased have gear issues . Some don’t . I feel it’s a crap shoot .
I bought a new Shimano Ultegra 1000s , shallow spool , I ordered from Japan , that just sits in the reel box . 90% of the time I’m reeling it’s Shimano smooth , but if I’m slow retrieving , as I would swimming a jig , it hangs up at the bottom of the spool stroke . Just binds up.
If it had been bought in the states , I would have returned it . $120 wasted .
I don’t know whether it’s Shimano’s newest designs or quality control .
I used to be Shimano , all the way .
Now , I’m more Daiwa . They are smoother IMO .
The Revros is a little on the heavy side (7oz) but it’s smooth , for $20 more , go for the Legalis (6.5 oz)
Or for a $108 , I think the 20 Gekka Bijin X LT 1000S-P would be a sweet reel . Although it does weigh 6.89 ounces .
This has been an issue for years……all the way back to 2009…maybe even farther back. That’s where the name ShiBindo came from. Many have traced it down to their nylon bushings.

Geez l’m getting old. I done forgot already. I know it was a 1000 size. I don’t live no where close to a big store so it would be a 50 mile trip to see. Guess I could look on line. I do have a few Daiwa Laguna LT2000 on my long line rods. I know it wasn’t that model but maybe two levels up in reels. I am thinking it was a Regal 1000
It may have been a revo. Awe just forget I said anything. I can’t remember.
No pressure. I’m at that age too. The Regal is usually in the 60 to 75$ range and I have a few of them. I don’t know of a better reel for that money. If I could find one with a shallow spool that didn’t cost me the farm I’d be a happy boy. I’ll keep sniffing around and find something that makes me pull the trigger one day.
Thanks Chaser. That’s one of the needs for me is light weight and lots of bearings too (within reason). The Daiwa Capricorn I speak of is twenty years old and won’t last forever and has a great personality. Everyone that picks it up and makes a cast says “Wow”. I want another that feels like that with the newer technology.
My uncle gifted me a couple capricorns and they are incredibly well built and smooth. Only problem is finding parts when they wear out. I even bought a 2500 on ebay I like them so much.
I also have been buying Regal LTs when I find them at decent prices. The Revros 2000 has a much lower line capacity than the Regal 2000. Not sure why or if spools interchange. I don't really like the Revros 2000 for that reason, not enough line on it and I have to fill it so full that wind knots are terrible.
