Living the dream out here in Arkansas. Had a fantastic 4 hours of fishing today. The day started slow but once the sun got up on the water it was game on. Once again the trout were not in an aggressive mood….but a Bison colored Trout Magnet was what they wanted. Fished it on a Daiwa gekkabijin 1.5 gram jig head with a #10 hook. The rod was an Abu Garcia Carabus 6’6” L powered rod….extremely fast. The key today was using the Varivas Infinity PE line in the 5.6# test....3 foot section of Phantom FC leader in 2# test in combination with the fast action of the Carabus Extreme 6’6’ rod. Had I been using a slower action rod, and nylon line, would not have had the numbers of fish I did. Area trout rods….which is what the Carabus is…are usually slow rods. But the Carabus is not at all slow. It reminds me of a very high end Ajing rod. For the past couple of days the trout here are not really committing to the lure. While many will swarm around your lure they just don’t want to hit it. And when they do the bite is very soft. So knowing that I chose my gear wisely. I knew I would need to use PE line and a rigid rod to maximize my hookup rate. My plan paid off with about 4 dozen trout…many at the 14 inch mark with one at 16. Life is good and getting better!
