If that’s not the truth. I had a Shakespeare Presidential Spinning rod that I bought with paper route money back in the early 70’s It was a beautiful thing to look at, cast like a dream, and was a pleasure to fish with. I left it in the trunk of my car without being in a case and it got broken. I was crushed. I’ve been looking for years for a replacement with no luck. Hopefully, we’ll get some good reports from Randy and his new toy!

I fished this rod today...only catching 2 fish. While the feedback from the rod is not as good as the graphite stream rods it shines...in my use so far....in casting and fighting the fish. While the rod is rated up to 8 grams I find anything over 5 grams is pushing it. Spinners and spoons from 2 grams to 5 grams work very well.....I can feel both working. On hook up the rod has a very nice curve. Fun with small fish but it will be able to handle big trout in my opinion with no propbelm. Up until now this is the shortest rod I have owned but am already looking at 4' 6" Fine Tail. I assume you still have and use glass rods. Any tips on using them...it has been many year since I have even had one in my hands. I know I will use it on the rivers a lot and it will be making the trip to the Little Red come July.

The rod looks like a blast to fish. I still have a glass rod my dad had built for me as a Christmas present 45 plus years ago. Have fun with it!

I have two old fiberglass spincasting rods: an Eagle Claw (my first rod, purchased in 1976) and a Fenwick. I haven't used either in a while, mainly because I've been looking for a spincast reel to put on them. (I need one with a handle on the left. I've been using spinning reels for so long, I can't go back to right-hand reeling.)

I don't have a lot of tips to offer, although fiberglass is great at protecting light line and casts easier, IMO. In this video, Tim Rajeff talks about his fiberglass fly rods. I know that's not what you have, but it is modern glass, and Tim is one of the best fly casters in the world. He grew up fishing fiberglass and has gone back to fiberglass for most of his freshwater fishing and even some saltwater fishing.
