Being anxious to get back to fishing I made the drive to Normandy tailrace yesterday. There are several flat areas to fish from on the back...don't want to risk a fall with my new spine....LOL. I had a 2000CH Shimano TwinPower on the rod spooled up with the Troutist 3# test nylon line. First lure used was the SpearHead Ryuki 45S...which was sent to me by another forum member.....very much appreciated. The Ryuki weighs 1/8 ounce and cast like a dream on the rod. Casting is very accurate. The Ryuki catches fish and I caught 3 stocker trout before I quit using it. At Normandy when using plugs you will sacrifice a lot of them due to the bottom there and I need to save the Ryuki for better streams. Next I decided to try a 1.5 gram Daiwa Gekkabijin jig head with a Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet. Much to my surprise the TenRyu casts the 1.5 gram extremely well. I landed around 15 or so stocker trout and much to my surprise 4 chunky largemouth. Keeping in mind I was using nylon.....I was very surprised how sensitive the rod is. It is not as sensitive as the area trout rods I own, nor the light game collection of rods I have but it is much more sensitive than I thought it would be. Hookups on the Ryuki were a jolt in the arm....using the TM you felt the normal light tic and the fish was on. While there is not a ton of current at Normandy there is enough to present an extra challenge when you hook a fish. The rod handled it great....much better than using area trout rods and light game rods there. Only fished for about 1.5 hours...it was very cold and standing that long after the surgery sure tired me out. Weather permitting I'll be back at Normandy as soon as possible. Owning this rod in all likelihood will have me fishing more cranks in non trout areas also. The rod gives a great fun factor also...not to mention it is thing of beauty.
