I'm sure the Chinese versions will be just fine, Daiwa has pretty good QC.
It is disheartening to see Daiwa's upper end reels labeled "Made in China".

No, price is not the reason. I bought from them just a couple of weeks ago and it was the same price and made in Japan. I am very unpleasantly surprised myself.
Interestingly, Digitaka apparently put out a warning about two origins for Luvias. They state that they only source the Japanese version at this point. I suspect in the near future most of Luvias on the market will be made in China.
I hate you here that. I’m going to fire off an email to Digitaka to see what they know about it.

Saw that and I see on some European sites they say the same. Well.....it was a good run. Hopefully they will keep the line Made in Japan.

Here what I think is a very kind reply from Asian Portal:
"Thank you for always supporting AsianPortal Fishing. We please accept our sincere apologies for country of manufacture of Daiwa luvias.
Basically, 2020 Daiwa Luvias is made in Japan.
However, although the initial production model is made in Japan, some of the additional Luvias (additional production, etc.) are manufactured at the Daiwa plant in China.
Currently, even if Luvias were manufactured with the same reel size, because it is divided into Japan and China, it is difficult for us to purchase from Daiwa only reels that are described as made in Japan.
However, even if it says "Made in China", the final confirmation of the product is done by Daiwa in Japan and it is shipped from Japan. we would appreciate if you kind understanding.
If you don't need Luvias this time, of course, we accept returns.
Sorry to trouble you, but we would appreciate your cooperation in returning reel. of course, we will bear the return cost.
We ship by Japan Post EMS, but EMS does not support return labels.
Therefore, we will pay the return cost to your PayPal.
Sorry to trouble you but please tell us your PayPal email address and return cost.

I've purchased a fair amount of JDM equipment from Asian Portal and their customer service has always been first rate.
The owner has a page devoted to how he got started in selling JDM fishing equipment, good people there!

Same here; this is the first time I inquired about the product received. To be clear, there seems to be absolutely nothing wrong with the reel with the exception of the origin.
They also have excellent prices on rods, and it is too bad they are not shipping rods these days.
