Yes the shallow spool will give you better casting distance. When I used my first JDM UL reel I knew I never wanted a deep spool reel again for UL angling. Yes they are on sale......just ordered me a 1003 model to use on my SUL and XUL rods. My nephew has used Stradic Ci4+ reels for several years. Earlier this year he sent 5 of them to Shimano in California for regular service. While they were gone he ordered 3 Daiwa Luvias 2004H models. Shimano sent him 5 brand new in the box Ci4+ back at no charge to him....not even the service charge. Shimano has done that for me before and other friends as well. He just put them up in the closet and is using them when he has a guest fishing with him. He then ordered 3 more Daiwa Luvias 2004H. To buy a new Ci4+ here at a store in TN you are looking at paying 269 bucks including tax. You can get a “made in Japan” Daiwa Luvias delivered to your door for around 210-235 dollars....it is a far superior reel to the Ci4+. Shoot , you can get a Shimano Twin Power 2004HGS delivered to your door for 269 bucks....same price as a Ci4+ bought in TN......and a Shimano Twin Power is one fine reel. Heck, a Stradic SK would cost me 220 bucks here in TN. I can get same reel....out of Japan, only difference is it has a shallow spool.......delivered to my door for around 160 bucks...that’s a savings of 60 dollars. Of course while there is a warranty it is not practical to send a reel back to Japan for coverage. So if warranty matters don’t order out of Japan. I’ve got 6 reels out of Japan and never had a problem with any of them.
