    Nothing is safe to eat anymore unless you grow it yourself. At times even that may not be safe

    That's an additional reason to keep Crappie and Gills. Generally, fish what don't live long enough to build up toxins like Bass and Catfish.

    Only place where Crappie and Gills are off limits is where everything has a ban. I talked to a fisheries biologist once that told me even where Bass and Catfish have a no eat warning that Crappie and Gills usually have very minimal levels, .

    I also talked to a biologist one day in the field about the advisory. His comment was that most of that is in the fat between the skin and meat of the fish. So, all those red blood lines and fat on the sides of the fillets, cut them out before consuming!
