Watch for a Diawa Fuego LT to be on sale. I saved up to buy 2 nice reels a couple years ago and bought a Shimano Stradic Ci4 for me and a Diawa Fuego LT for my son. The Shimano cost over double of the Diawa and within a month I was using the Diawa instead of my Shimano when he wasn't fishing with me. They're both great, but I prefer the Diawa.

If that's not in your budget it's hard to go wrong with a Pfleuger President. I have several of them and they've caught a lot of fish. Don't cheap out on a Pfleuger and get a Trion. Been there done that. One good day of White Bass catching and the one I have started making some noise.

I have a president I use for casting. Didn’t know if I’d need something different for single pole jigging. I used a trion for a while and liked it ok. Then went one day and it would barely reel. Cleaned and oiled it. Next time I went same thing. Ended up slinging it about half way across the creek.
