Wow, I caught a little bitty one in the Flint River a couple years ago bottom bouncing a 1" jig on the bottom for gills. It was only 8 or 10 inches long and I had to wait till I got home to figure out what it was. Be nice if the numbers return.
I haven't seen one since fishing with my Dad 60 years ago (I was 10) when we caught one in the Tn River around Perryville, TN. We went to a commercial fisherman that lived in Lick Creek on a barge with a house on it. He told us what it was and it was good to eat. And he was right! Would love to catch a couple.
Good gracious what a Sauger. That's huge. Thanks for posting that Robbie. My son and I caught more Sauger in one trip this year than I've caught in every trip combined in my life but didn't have a single keeper. We went back a week later and only caught around 10. I didn't realize they'd be that "hit and miss."
Giant for sure!
