I know it's a long drive but Lynn Hammock outside of Auburn is incredible. He's color blind and has someone else paint the fish but they look like they're breathing when they get done with them.
I use to do taxidermy on mammals. Never done fish and Lynn was my go to for fish. Whoever you get to mount the fish, I'd suggest telling them you don't want the fins "carded" That's when they glue some sort of material to the back side of the fins to repair any splits in the fin. It looks completely un-natural to me. I despise it.
There are probably some great fish taxidermists in this area, I'll see what I can find out. I would definitely recommend looking at one of their crappie mounts before handing it to anyone. When a fish is mounted, the skin turns a tan color so every color on the fish has to be painted back on. You don't want that beautiful black crappie to come back as a white crappie.....
My god is this fish real? This is the biggest Crappie I’ve ever seen great job.
