Bow eye safely chain

Who uses one and why? Are they mainly for traveling safety or for convenience while loading & unloading at the ramp? My rig doesn't have one but my trailer has a pad eye designed for one and was considering adding it. What's the best route to go if I do decide to add it? I think Boat Buckle makes one

Some states require one, in case of a head on it’ll keep lighter boat from flying forward, I bolted a piece of chain to winch stand with s hook thru the winch strap hook, bow eye to small for both.
Reason I did this because had a winch strap break while trailing once, sun faded it & made it weak.

Back in the early 70's, my Dad had a Bomber bass boat that had the winch strap break and didn't notice it till the front end of the boat started bouncing up and down. Back then there was only a strap that went over the rear of the boat. Turned out the boat had slid back about 4 feet on the trailer.

I have mine rigged just like Crappkid does. Winch strap breaks in can only move back about 12 inches. Can only go forward about 3-4 inches. In a collision probably not going to completely stop it but sure going to slow it down. Wouldn't be without one.

Would not travel with out one. A very important safety factor for sure. Just about any configuration of chain with a snap link into the eye hook on the bow of the boat in addition to your winch strap. You'll be amazed over the years how much a boat can move on that trailer without you knowing it. The safety chain helps to mitigate that and keep you from loosing the boat/damage. Worth every penny to get one added.

My tracker rig came with an additional safety strap at the winch stand. I really never thought about the importance of using it until I read these comments and I am convinced now that it is a good safety feature
