Default My Labor Day trip to Inland Lake

Inland Lake is a small reservoir in Blount county. It's owned by Birmingham Water works. When I was a teenager it was supposedly a great Spotted Bass and Striper Lake. I hadn't been in 30 years. I had made mention to one of my fishing buddies about wanting to go try pulling jigs there for crappie. He mentioned going today, thinking that since it was a small lake there wouldn't be so much holiday boat traffic.

So, there's a sherrifs deputy sitting in the road when we get on the Dam road. Had to show him our drivers licenses for ID and a $5 permit to launch a boat. Post 911 era stuff.....

So we get to the boat ramp. There's a huge sign that says, NO JETSKIS, NO WAKE BOATS, NO WAKEBOARDING, NO BOATING WITH WATER IN BALLAST, SKIING IN DESIGNATED AREAS ONLY. My jaw dropped. I thought I had found paradise.

We pulled jigs from 6:45-12:30. I also pushed cranks a while. We caught 9 little Spotted Bass, all a pound or smaller and 3 little yellow bass about the size of a deck of cards.

The water just out from the lower boat ramp is 150' deep. Water is clear. I marked very, very few fish and very few balls of bait and we ran the lake from one end to the other.

They might as well add to that sign: THERE ARE FEW FISH HERE. LOL

It sure was peaceful out there though.

One action shot, caught 3 at one time:

I fished there many years ago a few times and know other people who fished there too. All our trips were about like you reported. That lake does not have many fish or they are just too hard to find with the very deep clear water. I am ready for some cooler weather so the fish will start biting better.

I'm ready for some cool weather too. This hot weather ain't fat boy friendly.

I should have known it was too good to be true when I say no jet skis or wake boats were allowed. LOL

You never can tell. I fish a lot of lake like that and some are great some not so much. I have fished a few that people can't catch them in and I figured them out and cleaned up. Keep looking there's some good lakes out there.
