Kayak Trip Report, Lake Wheeler
I did a little single pole work today, catching and returned a limit plus of Crappie. The fish were 6 to 8 feet deep in about 10 feet of water. Best bait was a 1/32oz slider jig fished very slow and deep. I also had numerous bass, gill and strip mixed in.
While bouncing the slider jig down a steep bank with large rocks I picked up a Shellcracker. I kept working the area picking up more and more Redear feeding in the rocks, ended up keeping my first limit of Shellcrackers.

Great catch of the Redears but gonna have to disqualify 4 of them , 3 being blue gills
and 1 a long ear that I can see . probably the rest of them hiding under that crappie GRIN

1" Chartreuse w/Orange Tail.
And you've got me on the strays, but I caught several more keeper that I returned after my limit and many, many little ones, LOL.

Just picking at you a bit, id be happy to catch one or 2 Crackers this early !!! Usually it will be White Springs in about a Month or Swan R. before we see any of them . Good eats for sure !

I never mind someone giving me a hard time about a cooler of fish!

I remember some time ago you stated that you were gonna start targeting Shellcracker. I kinda figured something like that report was coming. Pound for pound they are my favorite fish. You need to slide that yak in Town Creek/Wilson and show us what's really under that water.

I'm figuring out a few things, rocky bottoms, small baits in black or brown fished slow on the bottom. Hard fish to target and catch with artificial.
