    Default What method and pattern?

I'm working hard at this crappie thing but so far it's kicking my butt. My son and I went late yesterday afternoon and fished from 4:00 til 8:00 last night and got skunked on crappie, again. We hit a marina before the sun went down, fishing the edges of the boat slips in 10-12 FOW with minnows. I caught a few bluegill, my son didn't catch any. We hit 2 different bridges after dark with the green submersible light and didn't get a bite. Water temp was 61.1.

Where do I need to be looking and how do I need to be fishing right now? I am not finding much of anything on my Helix that looks encouraging.

Bama is correct. This has been the worst fall I've seen in a long time. I don't know anyone who has consistently caught them this year in any big numbers. You might want to look at putting out
Some brush piles right now. It will probably pay off later.

Yep. All true above. Last year was odd. This fall is odd. Last 3 trips: 2 - marginal; 1 - awesome anomaly. Keep trying. I find starting at sunrise works better.
Not sure how old your son is but you might want to consider bringing worms for those slow days so he can catch something.

Thanks for the replies and advice. Sunrise isn't an option on weekdays. I went last Saturday morning before daylight and fished until about 10:00 am and did no better.

My son is 15. He's a fishing machine on a farm pond but that hasn't carried over to the lake yet.

One of these days I'm going to have a dump bed pontoon to put out brush piles like Bama S.

Mitch I've never fished Guntersvillie but I've said many times they should be on the grass lines. If I where going to pull cranks that's where I would start. I've fished lakes with grass before and they love to set up again that grass and pick of baitfish.

Like everyone says this has not been a good fall. Where the fish have always been they have not been there, learn to use your helix look for bait fish and the crappie will not be far from them
