    Default Minnows VS Jigs

Why is it that a Crappie won't hit a dead minnow but will hit the right color plastic jig. I agree with it I just wished I knew why?

And don't get me started on DB favorite white maribou. I ain't ever caught a fish on one of those.

The jig can not be pulled down. It must present well. Some days it's minnows some days it's jigs last week it was bad for both on my lake.

actually i use dead minnows all the time put them behind a jig and twitch it and works like a charm, call it my jig and pig. I put the live ones on a hook by themselves. works well as the day wears on and you start to have a few die on you. Hey i paid for those things and going to get my money's worth. seriously tho the movement, shine and something real in their mouth get them going.

In the right hands a jig is more affective than minnows in my opinion. I haven't used minnows in a long time but I remember a few times when a dead minnow would out fish a live one. Also the marabou jig is one of my favorite jigs and probably puts 60% of my fish in the boat. If you put you time in and work at it you will get good with a jig to.

Im about 60% minnows. I do catch most of trolling fish on jigs. But that maribou jig thing is a myth in my boat. I do like the idea of the pig&jig though.

I converted to jigs, 40yrs ago. I would say 50/50 back then with minnows. Since Crappie nibbles came out, my jigs are all I use. Nothing against minnows but I love my jigs, its the colors plus the nibble, that makes the difference. A friend and I went last spring, he used minnows and I used jigs, After I had caught 8 real slabs to his zero, he changed and we finished the day tied for fish caught.
